“eHealth's mission is to connect everyone with quality, affordable health insurance and Medicare plans, and we were looking for a managed service for MongoDB when we moved "all in" to the AWS Cloud. We had a plethora of different technologies; Oracle, SQL Server, Mysql, PostgreSql and MongoDB in our environment. Prior to our migration, each SQL/NoSQL database had its own way of doing backups, monitoring, replications, security, etc, and 30% - 35% of our DBAs time was spent on installation, patching, upgrade, and compliance. We chose DocumentDB as most of the MongoDB features were already compatible and it was a seamless migration, and it was the first time we felt it was in the realm of possibility to easily manage open-source SQL/NoSQL databases. It took 3 months to migrate 11 databases & applications ranging from POC, Dev, QA,CM to PROD. The biggest benefit is our developers are spending ZERO time managing the infrastructure (installation, patching, upgrades, backups, monitoring, alerting, etc) and focus more on delivering business value.”
