After a short time and some more learning about Mercurial, I discovered how to rebase my local repository and create a new unified diff against the latest py3k branch. This latest patch (7) supercedes all previous patches. I hope this patch is suitable for painless merging into the py3k branch. Eric, please let me know if you encounter any trouble merging it.
