microprocessor (plural microprocessors)
- (computer hardware) The entire CPU of a computer on a single integrated circuit (chip).
1992, Michael A. Miller, The 68000 Microprocessor Family: Architecture, Programming, and Applications, page 47:
When the microprocessor decodes the JSR opcode, it stores the operand into the TEMP register and pushes the current contents of the PC ($00 0128) onto the stack.
2007, Uwe Meyer-Baese, “Microprocessor Design”, in Digital Signal Processing with Field Programmable Gate Arrays, 3rd edition, Berlin: Springer Science+Business Media, →ISBN, page 537:
When you think of current microprocessors (μPs), the Intel Itanium processor with 592 million transistors may come to mind. […] Clearly today's FPGAs will not be able to implement such a top-of-the-range μP with a single FPGA.
