Isar
river in the Federal Republic of Germany (sources in Austria), a right-bank tributary of the Danube. Length, 283 km; basin area, 9,000 sq km.
The Isar rises in the Tyrolian Alps and flows into Bavaria. The lowest water level is in winter; in summer there are flash floods. The average rate of flow at the mouth is 185 cu m per sec. Logs are floated on the river. The city of Munich is situated on the Isar.
