a Bolshevik daily newspaper, which was published legally in St. Petersburg from Apr. 26 (May 9) through May 24 (June 6), 1906. Volna was printed at the Delo printing house, and 25 issues were published. The newspaper was directed by V. I. Lenin, who became its de facto editor beginning with the ninth issue (May 5 [18]), after his return from the Fourth (United) Congress of the RSDLP. Members of the editorial staff included V. V. Vorovskii and M. S. Ol’-minskii, and among the contributors were A. V. Lunacharskii and I.I. Skvortsov-Stepanov. Lenin published 27 articles and notes in the newspaper.

Volna exposed the constitutional illusions of the Menshe viks and Constitutional Democrats, and it mobilized the proletariat for the struggle against the tsarist autocracy. The newspaper was subjected to police persecutions. Of the 25 issues that were published, eight were destroyed by order of the St. Petersburg Court of Law (nos. 6, 10, 18, 19, and 22-25). On May 24, 1906, Volna was closed. In its place the Bolshevik daily Vpered was legally published from May 26, 1906.
