FFXII doesn't get a whole lot of love. It doesn't even get a lot of hate like II and XIII do. It doesn't get a lot of attention at all. It's that one that is rarely mentioned and often overlooked.

Fortunately it was released on Switch, the superior Zodiac Age version, and I played it and loved it, it's in my top tier along with VII, VI, and XIII.

Who else loves FFXII?

Who is your favorite character? Mine is Balthier. Of course we were all concerned when they made us think that Balthier was going to die, but fortunately he survived.

My favorite area is Salikawood. Raithwall's Tomb was pretty cool too. On that note, awesome that so few areas in this game are unrevisitable (the only really cool one of which being Leviathan). This was such a huge problem in IX and XIII.

While Pharos is long, if you know what to do it can be fun, and the intensity of the dungeon and its theme songs fits with taking out the mad scientist allied with Vayne at the top (on that note, first evil Cid).

Vayne is a pretty good villain too with an awesome final battle (aside from long moments of being invincible) and death scene.

And pretty cool that Ashe decides not to seek vengeance, while at the same time recognizing that she must take out Vayne, not out of vengeance, but to stop his threats and bring peace. Of course, other than stabbing Vayne (and even that doesn't kill him), Vaan doesn't have any relevance to the plot after Ashe comes in, yet he's still the main character who you always play as in towns. At least you can play as whoever you want outside of towns (I usually play as Balthier).

It plays more like Xenoblade Chronicles than Final Fantasy but of course is still fun (Xenoblade Chronicles is higher up my list than any FF game cept VII), and the License Board could be my favorite level up grid (Sphere Grid cost too much to backtrack and some parts are cryptic to get, and Crystarium gets really expensive later), plus looks like a chessboard, and the Gambits are really useful.

And like Xenoblade Chronicles, it has a New Game+, making for a faster playthrough without worrying about level grinding.
