Melmond is an agricultural town from the original Final Fantasy. Located in the southwest of the archipelago in which the game takes place, it is the town most affected by the rotting of the earth. The town is where Dr. Unne can be found.
Story[]
Some dwarves and elves have taken notice of the region's withering of flora. One old sage found in Pravoka fled Melmond, his hometown, due to the rotting of the earth. By the time the Warriors of Light visit the town, a dwarf named Watts is trying to find out the cause of the decay.
Several townsfolk believe the cause is the vampire from the Cavern of Earth, who attacked Melmond and destroyed the town's church, but its defeat has led to no improvement. One villager muses there must be a different source of the decay. The decay only stops when the Warriors of Light find and destroy lich, the Fiend of Earth. Despite having defeated lich, the town's appearance never changes during the game, though many people thank the party for saving the town and believe it will return to its natural state.
Later, the party returns to Melmond to find Dr. Unne, so that he can decipher the Rosetta Stone to learn the Lufenian language.
