For the other recurring creature sometimes localized as Slime, see Green Slime; for other uses, see Slime (disambiguation)
The Slime (スライム, Suraimu?) is a recurring creature in the Final Fantasy series, first appearing in Final Fantasy III. It is usually a weak variety of flan weak against Fire, though the Slime is sometimes a distinct type of creature from flans with less defined forms. In addition to the Slimes original to the Final Fantasy series, the iconic Slime from the Dragon Quest series makes several guest appearances across the franchise.
Appearances[]
Final Fantasy III[]
The Slime appears as an enemy encountered on the northwest edge of the Floating Continent. It is weak to Fire-elemental damage.
Final Fantasy XI[]
Slimes are a family of amorphs. They are common enemies found in several dungeons. Their Digest ability can be learned by Blue Mages.
In addition, Slimes from Dragon Quest can appear during the Dragon Quest X Collaboration event. These Slimes are sometimes unofficially referred to as Astoltian Slimes to differentiate them from the Final Fantasy XI Slime, in reference to the setting of Dragon Quest X. They can be encountered as enemies in South Gustaberg, East Ronfaure, and East Sarutabaruta; defeating them captures them, allowing the player to trade them in for Slime-themed items. They can also be obtained as Monipulators for use in Monstrosity.
Final Fantasy XII[]
The Slime appears as an enemy encountered in the Zertinan Caverns. It poses little threat to the party unless the player is not quick enough to dispatch it in time and risk in it dividing into more Slimes. It is weak to Earth-elemental damage.
Final Fantasy XIV[]
Main article: Slime (Final Fantasy XIV enemy family)
Slimes are an enemy family distinct from flans, usually appearing in subterranean instances. They are categorized as a form of ashkin, or undead, made of assorted congealed bodily fluids left behind by the dead. Certain slimes are particularly dangerous for their Rupture ability, which inflicts massive fractional damage to all party members within range.
Vagrant Story[]
The Slime comes in two variations and can be encountered in the Abandoned Mines. It poses little threat.
Final Fantasy Legend II[]
The Slime appears as a monster available only when forming the party at the start of the game. It cannot be encountered as an enemy, nor can it be transformed into, but it can transform into other monsters as normal. A separate Slime (グリーンスライム, Gurīnsuraimu?, lit. Green Slime) can also be encountered as an enemy early in the game.
Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light[]
The Slime appears as an enemy which comes in two variants. The first variant can be encountered in the Liberte area and the Pirate Hideout, posing no threat to the party and can be easily disposed by Fire-elemental attacks. The second variant can be found inside the Holy Tree Tower and possesses higher stats as well as ability to merge and is weak against Earth-elemental damage.
Final Fantasy Brave Exvius[]
The Slime from the Dragon Quest series appears as an enemy and recruitable unit.
War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius[]
The Slime from the Dragon Quest series appears as a recruitable unit.
Non-Final Fantasy guest appearances[]
Bravely Default[]
The Slime appears as an enemy encountered outside Caldisla during the day. It poses little threat to the party, although its Acid may reduce its opponent's P.Def. by 25%. Its appearance is based on the The 4 Heroes of Light Slime, with Bravely Default having been originally conceived as a sequel to that game.
