Throw Items

Allows the unit to throw items with the Items command within a range of 4 tiles like a chemist, even if using a different job.

The Ivalice Chronicles' description

Throw Items, also known as Throw Item, is a support ability in Final Fantasy Tactics, learned by the chemist job. It allows the unit to throw items even if they are not a chemist, provided that they have the Items secondary job command equipped. The support ability must be learned by expending JP as a chemist, at which point it and other jobs can also use it.

Chemists have innate "throw items", meaning that equipping them with the Throw Items support ability is redundant.

Obtained[]

Throw Items costs 350 JP to be spent on the chemist job. Once the unit has learned it, they can equip it in their support ability slot to use it.

If a unit that knows Throw Items becomes a crystal, a human unit picking up the crystal may learn Throw Items without spending JP.

Mechanics[]

Throw Items enables a non-chemist unit to throw items to faraway targets, so they do not need to be right next to them.

The unit must still have the Items action ability equipped for Throw Items support ability to have an effect, as it merely expands the distance that Items can be used. The thrower needs a clear line to their target for the item to land correctly, same as with Throw Stone or Throw, and so thrown items can miss if blocked by obstacles.

Use[]

Throw Items provide the equipped unit with the flexibility of a chemist without the major drawbacks of the job, which are its low attributes and poor fighting presence. This allows the unit to use a different job with better stats and mobility, such as the thief or the ninja, to serve as a more effective support for the team. Having at least one unit with Throw Items and the Items job command equipped is valuable at any stage of the game.

An advantage of healing and restorative items is that the healing is fixed, determined by the potency of the potion, and for status recovery items it has a 100% chance of success; as opposed to supportive magick, which relies on the magick power and/or the faith stat.

Throw Items could be used offensively, to damage undead targets.
