Waterwalking

Allows the unit to move across and even stop on the surface of water.

Description in Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles

Waterwalking, also known as Walk on Water, is a movement ability in Final Fantasy Tactics that is learned by the ninja job. It allows a unit to walk on water terrain squares as if they were regular terrain squares, thus avoiding movement or depth penalties usually associated with water. Waterwalking must be learned by expending JP earned for the ninja job by a particular unit, at which point it can be equipped by that unit (which they can keep even when they change jobs).

Obtained[]

Waterwalking costs 420 JP for the ninja job. Once the unit has learned it, they can equip it in their movement ability slot.

Use[]

Waterwalking should only be equipped in locations where numerous water tiles are present, such as Finnath Creek. In locations lacking water, a movement ability such as Movement +3, Jump +3, Ignore Elevation, Fly, or Teleport will likely be more useful.

Waterwalking is mechanically equivalent to Swim, learned from the samurai job, with the exception that Waterwalking stays at ground level on water tiles whereas as Swim sinks 1 unit of height. The player could also use the Float status or Levitate movement ability, both causing the unit to float 1 unit of height above the ground, to move across water tiles without any penalties or restrictions.

Etymology[]

Walking on water is at times used as an example of an impossible task. The phrase is widely used to refer to the performance of extraordinary tasks, as in the titles of books that aim to show individuals how to break through their personal limitations and achieve dramatic success.
