It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain blue field.

Shield Or, two maize barns Gules, in chief a flax flower Azure; issuant from base wavy Azure, charged with a barrulet wavy Argent, a watermill wheel Sable. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "CASTAINÇO".

Castainço Commune is one of the seven communes of Penedono Municipality; it had 161 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 14.0 km².
