OpenAI and GitHub Integration This project is an integration between OpenAI and GitHub that uses GPT-4 architecture to generate suggestions for Python code based on a provided code snippet, then uploads the modified code to GitHub.
Getting Started Prerequisites To use this project, you will need:
Python 3.x An OpenAI API key A GitHub API key A GitHub repository where you have write access Installation Clone the repository:
bash Copy code git clone https://github.com/<your_username>/<your_repository>.git cd <your_repository> Install the required Python packages:
Copy code pip install -r requirements.txt Create a .env file in the root of the project with the following environment variables:
makefile Copy code OPENAI_API_KEY=<your_openai_api_key> GITHUB_API_KEY=<your_github_api_key> GITHUB_REPO_OWNER=<your_github_repo_owner> GITHUB_REPO_NAME=<your_github_repo_name> Update the testapikey.py file with your OpenAI and GitHub API keys.
Run the main.py file:
css Copy code python main.py Usage The main.py file will list all .py files in the directory where the script is run, read and process each file, generate suggestions for modifying the code using OpenAI's GPT-4 architecture, and upload the modified code to the specified GitHub repository.
The generated suggestions and modified code will be output to the console, and logging will be written to a file named app.log.
Contributing Pull requests are welcome. For major changes, please open an issue first to discuss what you would like to change.
Please make sure to update tests as appropriate.

Getting Started To use this script, you'll need an OpenAI API key and a GitHub personal access token with "repo" scope. These should be stored in a .env file in the project root directory:
makefile Copy code OPENAI_API_KEY= GITHUB_API_KEY= GITHUB_REPO_OWNER= GITHUB_REPO_NAME= You'll also need to install the required Python packages:
Copy code pip install requests pip install python-dotenv Usage To run the script, simply navigate to the directory containing the Python code files you want to improve, and run:
css Copy code python main.py The script will output suggestions and modified code for each Python file in the directory, and upload the modified code to the specified GitHub repository.
Error Handling The script includes several measures to handle errors gracefully:
If the OpenAI or GitHub API keys are invalid, the script will print an error message and exit. If an error occurs while making an API request, the script will log the error and continue processing other files. If a file in the directory is not a Python file, the script will skip it and continue processing other files. Logging The script logs errors and successful uploads to a file named app.log in the project root directory.
