This is not wrong, it really does have .exe when you build from source for the reason given in the note.
For example:
❯ ./python.exe Python 3.13.0a4+ (heads/main:87faec28c7, Mar 3 2024, 16:25:51) [Clang 15.0.0 (clang-1500.1.0.2.5)] on darwin Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
