A while ago I proposed the following syntax for embedded expressions in 
strings, parsed at compile-time:
     "create index \{table}_lid1_idx on \{table}(\{lid1})"

And the equivalent runtime parsed version:
    r"create index \{table}_lid1_idx on \{table}(\{lid1})".cook(params)
