And since it is bikeshedding, as you say, I'm happy to just follow along. I see no particular advantage to any of the choices, except that both "w", and ".exe" are Windows-only things, so making it "just like Unix" + Windows-only things would seem more convenient, in some ways. So I'll start the voting for python VERSION [w] .exe as the windows sequence.
