As you correctly point out, it can't be done without friction.

I've attempted backporting kw-only parameters through decorators:

from sigtools import modifiers

@modifiers.kwoargs('kwop')
def func(abc, kwop):
    ...

@modifiers.autokwoargs
def func(abc, kwop=False):
    ...
