I'm trying to install Python on my DG Aviion running DG/UX and its failing.

I first tried just a ./configure and make with no options and I received a
ton of messages saying " unknown option: -pic".

Then I tried changing the Makefile to say "-fpic" instead.  This allowed make
to run without that error, but then near the end I received an error from ar
saying "../ not an archive".

Finally, I did a make clean and rm config.cache and re-ran ./configure
--without-gcc and it got stuck "checking whether cc accepts
-OPT:Olimit=0...".

Help!
