I suggest you take a look at omniORB. It is a free product by AT&T and has an incredible performance. It comes with an extended naming service and an event service is available as a contribution (also free): http://www.uk.research.att.com/omniORB/index.html OmniORB supports C++ and Python language bindings (uses the same libraries).
