Assuming you're on Winxx, one way is to set up an ODBC
data source using the control panel application, then
test it using access, excel, whatever.

The standard distribution comes with an odbc module, see
http://www.python.org/windows/win32/odbc.html, but
I use Marc A Lemburg's mxOdbc package.
