Yes, Even O'Reilly agree. There is an article on the 
ora.com website specifically saying so.

It indirectly recommends Ivan Lanningham's book:
Teach Yourself Python in 24 hours.

You also might try downloading my online tutor which
is aimed at complete beginners with a view to getting 
you to the point where you can follow the official 
tutorial.
