I agree that 'the' and also sensible usage of 'he/she/it' is a nice feature of English grammar. English *grammar* is quite consistent and simple. Of course I may be biased because Dutch is close to English grammar wise (in between English and German in complexity). English is a language that has few exceptions and relatively little odd stuff to learn. What is a mess with English is its spelling, even though I don't seem to have a lot of trouble with it, for some reason. There may still be deeper patterns that a brain can pick up, perhaps? What is difficult to learn because of its large size is English vocabulary. But that's also one of its charms; quite a few words to express shades of meaning. But luckily one doesn't have to pick up the whole vocabulary at once. All in all, English is a nice language. Rich literature and such too. Of course I'm biased. I'm happy with English as a world language because I know it pretty well. Just wanted to say it has its strengths, though. :) Regards, Martijn -- History of the 20th Century: WW1, WW2, WW3?
