I hesitate to mention this lest it be construed as advocacy, but the
PROGRAMMING RUBY book (by David Thomas and Andrew Hunt, the PRAGMATIC
PROGRAMMER guys) is now online at <http://www.rubycentral.com/book/>.
Whether or not you like Ruby, it's a very well-written book and makes
learning the language orders of magnitude easier for English speakers.
