It's true that it's not significant per person.  But when lots and lots
of people have to do this, the effort adds up.  It is effectively
offloading the effort onto the people who want to contact you.

You may consider that a perfectly valid tradeoff (in fact you almost
certainly do since you're advocating the system), but the people who are
trying to contact you integrated over all time may not.
