HELP! Must choose language!

You will get a somewhat biased answer on any newsgroup.

Have you gone through the tutorial yet?  If not, do so.  Or look at
some of the other beginner materials.  Have you download and installed
the Python interpreter yet?  If not, do so.  Use the interactive mode
to experiment and learn.  This possibility alone is a reason to choose
Python over other languages that lack this advantage.
