You should look at Twisted (http://www.twistedmatrix.com/).  Included
is an ssh module (twisted.conch) which can automate what you need. 
Unfortunatly, there are no docs for it (yet!), but if you come to
#twisted on freenode/opn, or send me an e-mail, I can help get you
started.
