You might also look at the docs for HTML::Mason (www.masonhq.com) to get a look at a reasonably mature template system, even if you don't plan to use it (because it's in Perl and not Python). I'm not sure if CherryPy is directly comparable. I haven't yet used any of the Python template systems.
