In 2374, Captain Benjamin Sisko fell under the influence of visions from the Prophets and Pah-wraiths. During an illusory 1953, Douglas Pabst told writer Benny Russell to either burn his own story about a negro captain or stick it in a drawer for however long it would take for the Human race to become color blind. (DS9: "Far Beyond the Stars")

Powder burns were caused by the depositing of products of combustion on the skin and clothing of dead individuals, a fact Odo learned from reading 20th century crime novels. (DS9: "Field of Fire")
