An elephant was a large quadrupedal mammal from Earth. It was characterized by a trunk and two large ivory tusks jutting out from the upper jaw.

The novelization of "Once Upon a Planet", published in Star Trek Log 3, described the cat in that story as "only slightly smaller than an elephant."
