Gravity assist

A gravity assist was a method by which spacecraft could change their trajectory and speed by using the gravitational field of a celestial object.

During the Europa Mission, the Shango X-1 used a gravity assist from Mars for its flight to Jupiter's moon Europa. This maneuver helped conserve fuel on aboard the interplanetary vehicle. (PIC: "Two of One")
