The Nelvana system was an uninhabited planetary system in the Beta Quadrant. This system consisted of the red primary Sigma Nelvana and five planets. It was located in the Federation-Romulan border.
Stellar Cartography[]
In 2259, the location of this system was labeled on a stellar cartography chart seen on the USS Enterprise's ready room viewscreen. The system's symbol had a green color, indicating that it was affiliated with the Romulan Star Empire. (SNW: "Spock Amok")
During the mid-24th century, the system was a strategically significant point in the Federation-Romulan border. From this system, the Romulan Star Empire was within striking distance of fifteen Federation sectors.
In 2366, the Romulans deceived the Federation into believing they had established a secret base on Nelvana III and successfully lured the USS Enterprise-D there to respond. (TNG: "The Defector")
The system's location was labeled in a Federation star chart that was in Fleet Admiral Kirsten Clancy's office at Starfleet Headquarters in 2399 and on the bridge of the USS Titan-A in 2401. Nelvana was in or near to space claimed by the Romulan Free State. (PIC: "Maps and Legends", "The Next Generation", "Disengage")
In 2401, this system's position was labeled on a star chart used by Captain William T. Riker during his attempt at finding the last known location of the SS Eleos XII. (PIC: "The Next Generation")
Nelvana on a star chart (left)
In 3190, the location of Nelvana was labeled on a star chart used by Commander Paul Stamets for tracking the movement of the Dark Matter Anomaly through the galaxy. (DIS: "The Examples")
In the Bayer designation, which was a system of stellar classification, the Greek letter indicated the brightness of a star in a constellation. In this case, Sigma Nelvana would be the 18th brightest star in its constellation.
