The Obena class was a type of Federation starship operated by Starfleet during the late 24th century to the early 25th century.
Technical data[]
The design of Obena-class ships resembled that of the refit Excelsior-class ships, though it was larger and had some features that resembled the newer Sovereign-class, such as an oval-shaped primary hull and redesigned warp nacelles.
Interior design[]
Bridge[]
The bridge was similar to that of the USS Excelsior insofar as against the aft wall was a large engineering master systems display monitor showing a cutaway of the ship and status information.
The center of the bridge consisted of multiple elevations with the captain's chair at the highest position, over the operations and navigation console. (LD: "First First Contact")

Background information[]
On 13 October 2021, Writer and Lower Decks creator Mike McMahan confirmed the class name and that it was inspired by the Excelsior-class, but was "larger with some other changes." [1] He also confirmed that the class is named for Lower Decks art designer Nollan Obena. [2]
The audio description for "First First Contact" described this as an Excelsior-class starship.
Apocrypha[]
In the Star Trek Adventures - Lower Decks Campaign Guide, the Obena-class was commissioned in 2380 and officially launched in 2381 with the USS Obena (NX-/NCC-83000). Ships of the class were named after historical artists and thinkers of Federation members, and their registry numbers were NCC-83000 and higher. Compared to other Federation starships, the Obena-class benefited from an improved warp drive and secondary reactors that gave the ship a maximum warp factor of 9.988. It was also equipped with a variant of the quantum slipstream drive called the quantum slipstream burst drive which enabled the ship to move at 318 light years per hour.
Other active ships in the Obena-class included the USS da Vinci, USS Warhol and USS Kant.
