1990: NASA's space shuttle Atlantis launches for mission STS-38.
1942: Lieutenant "Pavel Alexandrovitch Chuikov" is reported lost over the Baltic Sea when his Red Guard squadron of Yakovlev YAK-1 aircraft is ambushed by a group of German Fockewulfe Fu-190 fighters and his port wing gets shot off. (TOS novel: Home is the Hunter)
