1947: Most provisions of President Harry S. Truman's National Security Act go into effect, establishing the United States Air Force as its own branch of the United States Armed Forces.
1970: American musician Jimi Hendrix dies.
1977: NASA's Voyager 1 space probe takes the first photo of the Earth and moon together.
2293: Federation President Ra-ghoratreii personally requests that Ambassador Sarek undertake a diplomatic mission for the planet Kadura. As he departs Vulcan, his wife Amanda Grayson writes in her private journal that she might never see him again, as she is dying from Reyerson's disease. (TOS novel: Sarek)
2152: Facing a neutronic wavefront, the crew of the Earth Starfleet starship Enterprise shuts down the warp drive and takes shelter in the most heavily shielded portions of the ship, including sickbay and a warp nacelle catwalk. (ENT episode: "The Catwalk")
