552-4 was a 23rd century Tholian starship. It was the Tholian Assembly's entry into The Great Starship Race in the year 2269.
Service history[]
During the race, 552-4 was commanded by Captain Kmmta. As racers converged toward the first navigation beacon in the race, the region became packed with competitors. Each ship needed to pass within 100,000 kilometers in order to be sent the signal frequency of the second beacon and continue racing. At this point in the competition, 554-2 and the Zeon racer Irimlo Si had a minor collision, yet both vessels proceeded unabated. 552-4 ended up crossing the finish line at beacon 12 near Gullrey in second place.
Due to their unusual life support needs, Tholian personnel were unable to represent their vessel at the closing ceremonies in Mon Oren City. Instead, Federation Ambassador Yeshmel graciously accepted the second place platinum plaque on their behalf. (TOS novel: The Great Starship Race)
