A battle group was a military unit, a task force of several starships used by Starfleet and the Klingon Empire.

Starfleet[]

Klingon Empire[]

A Klingon battle group was made up of three Klingon squadrons that formed for short periods, usually in a crisis. They flew in d'li'k'tazi or "grand arrowhead" formation. (StarDrive Issue 1: "Tactics of the Imperial Klingon Navy")

In the early 2250s decade, on reference stardate 1/9302.24, a Klingon battle group was detected by the USS Irwin, and Starfleet diverted nearby ships to defend the region. (FASA RPG module: The Federation)

In the mid 2260s, on reference stardate 2/0801.06, a Klingon battle group under the command of Captain Kor was deployed to Organia during the Federation-Klingon War of 2267. In 2283, on reference stardate 2/1808.19, a battle group of five K't'inga-class battlecruisers under the command of Admiral Kai zantai-Mik fought Federation Task Force 13, which had encroached on the Stogar system, destroying USS Vidal and USS Clark and heavily damaging USS Strider. By the late 2280s decade, at least 10 Klingon Defense Force battle groups were stationed at K'Kaarr, seven at Kannaga, six at Agiirrat, three at Marram IX, and three at Kachtulla VII. (FASA RPG module: The Triangle)

The rebel offshoot Imperial Klingon States maintained 37 battle groups, including 21 made up of D7 cruisers, six of D18 Lara'atan-class destroyers, one of L9 Sivista-class frigates, three of D10 Riskadh-class cruisers, and three of K-23 Talat Kh'exesta-class escorts. Na'kuhl[]

A 29th century Na'kuhl battle group was Virtuous Destiny. The dreadnought NV General Vosk served as its flagship. At some point before the Battle of Procyon V in 2554, the Nachthexen-class battlecruiser USS Defiant-C, under the command of Captain K'grel, daughter of Korol took the General Vosk down during the Temporal Cold War.
