A cutter termite was a type of animal lifeform found on planet Trillius Prime. Swarms of them would infest rotting wood, turning it into splinters.
When Ranul Keru was a young boy, he accidentally stepped on a rotting log disturbing a swarm of cutter termites within. In early 2386, Keru was reminded of that childhood incident when he witnessed Solanae orb-drones dismantling the USS Titan's auxiliary control. (TTN novel: Sight Unseen)
