A drone was a remote-controlled technology application, possessed of a limited autonomy. Types of drones include many robotic devices, as well as the cyborg application of assimilated Borg drones, who were controlled by a hive mind.
In 2269, several drones with cameras covered Commander Spock's bid to run for the office of Iotian President on Sigma Iotia II. (TOS - Year Five comic: "Issue 4")
