Mariner and Boimler at FleetCon.
FleetCon was a 24th century fan gathering where civilians and officers celebrated Starfleet.
History and specifics[]
As a boy in 2322, young Alonzo Freeman attended a FleetCon held in Chicago.
In one of Badgey's holographic drills aboard the USS Cerritos, the 2381 event was held in San Francisco at a facility near the Golden Gate Bridge. It featured instructive panels, autograph signings with celebrated Starfleet personnel, a Cochrane warp ten shuttle simulator ride, and a tribble pit, supported with various food and merchandise vendors. Starfleet uniforms from various eras were on display from the 2150s to 2380s. It also had an afterparty.
Brad Boimler convinced Beckett Mariner, Sam Rutherford and D'Vana Tendi to cosplay as Rear Admiral James T. Kirk, Commander Montgomery Scott, and Lieutenant Ilia in early 2270s Starfleet attire. Boimler looked forward to attending the panel "Engage: Getting the Best From Your Bridge Crew". Rutherford planned to ride the warp ten Cochrane shuttle simulator ride. Captain William Riker hosted a booth promoting his new album To Boldly Blow, adorned with a life size cutout of him playing the trombone.
In the simulation, Riker was tasked with halting a coup by rogue admirals. Some of them dared William Boimler to eat some psychotropic worms, possibly provided by a sketchy food vendor. The worms made him sick, and Tendi diagnosed them as triggering delusions of grandeur and paranoia. Riker realized that the admirals were similarly afflicted. Tendi developed an antidote, and Rutherford found a frequency that hypnotized the worms, one that Riker could reproduce on his trombone. Riker played it near the admirals and the cure was administered. (LD video game: The Badgey Directive event: "A Real Can of Worms")
