Groat was a grain plant native to Cardassia Prime.
History and specifics[]
It naturally grew in humid, warm climates. On Cardassia, groat was mainly produced and harvested in greenhouses. During the Cardassian occupation of Bajor, the plant flourished there. The Rakanthan Farming Project used it to make soup, porridge, flour, bread, and groatcakes on Bajor. (ST reference: The Star Trek Cookbook)
In 2370, Odo described Rom and Quark as being willing to buy groat with their blood. (DS9 episode: "Necessary Evil")
In 2374, Quark asked Odo about a missing shipment of groat clusters. (DS9 episode: "His Way")
