In the mirror universe, the ISS Cooper (NCC-1669) was a Terran Empire starship, a Malachowski-class vessel in Imperial Starfleet service in the 2250s decade. (DSC episode: "Despite Yourself", Shipyards reference: Starfleet Ships 2151 - 2293)

Service history[]

In late 2256, the Federation starship USS Discovery jumped to the mirror universe by way of its spore drive. In an asteroid field near Porathia, the Discovery came under attack by a Vulcan rebel cruiser, and received assistance by the ISS Cooper. Quickly catching on to their predicament, the Discovery's crew acted like Terrans to stave off an attack by Captain Spoeneman, who then had his ship resume the search for rebel nests. Background[]

  • The ship's primary universe counterpart may be the USS Cooper, as Captain Lorca assumes in "Despite Yourself".
  • Star Trek: Discovery production concept art by John Eaves reprinted in the booklet included with Star Trek: Discovery The Official Starships Collection issue 9 reveals the ship to be Malachowski class with the registry NCC-1669. The concept board names the 20th century pilot and astronaut Gordon CooperWP as the origin of the name.
  • The Eaglemoss hardcover book Star Trek Shipyards: Starfleet Ships 2151 - 2293 (in the "Class Listing" appendix) also identifies the Cooper as Malachowski class but erroneously gives the Cooper the same registry number as the USS T'Plana-Hath, NCC-1004.
