Nibo Hoq

Nibo Hoq was a 24th century male Saurian merchant.

Biography[]

Hoq was a merchant who visited Starbase Deep Space 9 several times. He also specialized on gathering information and selling in high price. To keep his clientele, and himself out of trouble, he followed the rule "one buyer per trip": not double selling information about his clients.

By 2370 he operated as an agent of Lursa during the Klingon House of Duras actions to assassinate Chancellor Gowron. He asked a high price from her for giving information about the Chancellor.

During the official talks between the Klingon Empire and the United Federation of Planets on Deep Space 9, he claimed to Ops that his ship needed some repairs, and booked a room for three nights. Since his reputation as information broker was well known, Odo had him under watch, although he did nothing illegal. Hoq, spying on Gowron's movements, found out that the Chancellor, as a guest, was guarded both by his bodyguards and the Federation; the meetings held until late afternoon, and once the station's shields dropped, Gowron was the first to beam to his ship; then he returned to drink and tell stories in Quark's until late.

When the Q'uarath approached the station, Hoq was expected to contact dRacLa of the House of Ingka, who was secretly stationed there, and inform the conspirators about Gowron's movements. That evening, while Gowron was in Quark's, Hoq, wearing a flowing green robe, moved silently to an area of the station's guest quarters; he was ignored by two of the guards. He was instructed to knock on the third door after one with a faint grey mark — a scratch with a hooked end near the upper corner.

Indeed, dRacLa opened the door for him, and asking for his reward, the Klingon threw at him a wrapped package. Then, looking at the warrior's eyes, the Saurian related all he knew about Gowron and his schedule. He was a bit worried that he had to explain further his information, then asked his client to open the door manually to return to his ship. The Klingon however was worried that his informant would not be above selling information about him; laighing, Hoq reassured him about his professionalism. Nonetheless, instead of opening the door, dRacLa pulled out his knife and stubbed the Saurian.

Feeling his strength abandoning him, he attempted to move away, but the larger warrior pushed him closer to his body, and Hoq stopped stuggling; his last words, as he fell on the floor, were that there was no need for this, as he had given his word, making dRacLa laugh in derision.

Soon after his body was seen by a guard, just before being hit by dRacLa. He then informed Odo, and he brought the highest officers of the station and the USS Enterprise to the room to investigate Hoq's body. (ST novel: Klingon)
