The Omega-weapon was an enormously devastating energy weapon built into the planet-sized world-ship Archernar IV.

History and specifics[]

The weapon was powered by quadraphasic energy from the vessel's "Heart of God" power generator. It yielded energy millions of times stronger than a photon torpedo. (TOS - Mission's End comic: "Issue 1")

In 2270, Federation Council debates on whether to admit Archernar IV into the Federation weighed their High Administrator's enthusiasm for joining against Archernarian savagery and the unmatched destructive power of the weapon.

Six months after the Council sessions, High Minister Kel-M led a short-lived coup and fired the weapon at the orbiting Archernar IV contact station. It obliterated the K-class space station and left a microsingularity in its wake. Montgomery Scott ejected the USS Enterprise's warp coils to propel the singularity away from Archernar, then withdrew the starship a few hundred million kilometers to get out of range of the weapon.
