Orb of Contemplation

The Orb of Contemplation.

The Orb of Contemplation.

The Orb of Contemplation was one of the nine Bajoran Orbs sent by the Prophets from the Celestial Temple.

History[]

In 2371, the Orb was returned to Bajor by Legate Turrel. The return of the Orb was threatened as Turrel used the return of the Orb as bait to expose a Maquis cell and the Cardassians who were helping them. (DS9 - Prophecy and Change short story: "The Orb of Opportunity")

In 2374, the Orb was being housed in the Bajoran temple on Deep Space 9. Jadzia Dax was in the temple, praying to the Prophets through the orb, when the Pah-wraith possessed Gul Dukat transported into the shrine. Dukat critically injured Jadzia before releasing the Pah-wraith into the orb. This act allowed the Pah-Wraith to enter the wormhole, collapsing its entrance and starting a celestial war between the Prophets and the Pah-wraith. (DS9 episode: "Tears of the Prophets")

First splinter timeline[]

In April of 2376, at a secret meeting of high ranking Vedeks, Kyli Shon suggested consulting the Orb about how to deal with the Ohalu Prophecies. The Orb of Contemplation was still on Deep Space 9 at the time, where Jean-Luc Picard viewed it. (DS9 novel: Avatar, Book One)

Later in the year, the Orb of Contemplation had been moved to the Shikina Monastery. Kira Nerys opened the Orb of Contemplation, in combination with the eight other Orbs, and sent the parasite spawnmother into the Celestial Temple. (DS9 novel: Unity)
