The Orion Nebula was a stellar gas cloud located somewhere in the galaxy's Alpha and Beta Quadrants, a nebula formation visible from Earth as the middle star in Orion's Sword, part of the Orion constellation.

History and specifics[]

Nyota Uhura received communications reports of a firestorm in that area in the year 2294, while working for Inter-Galactic Systems. (TOS novel: The Fearful Summons)

Before an atheist cult known as the Red Path launched their deicide against godlike beings across the galaxy, the Nebula became the site for a civil uprising. Though the Orion Infantry was fielded to eliminate this insurrection, the rebel forces utilised isotopic weapons which inflicted severe damage to the cellular structure of its victims, leaving them with horrific injuries. One of the field medics, Corporal Nymira Vondect, developed a treatment for the wounded conscripts which decreased the damage, enabling soldiers to resume their participation in the fighting, only for them to return with more savage disfigurements. Though her commanders referred to this drug as a cure, Vondect became disenchanted with the crusade and began to euthanise patients, allowing their ruined souls to move on. One of these individuals was Lieutenant Masri, but though Nymira claimed that her action enabled him to escape the agonies of the civil war, his father Gomek accused her of having killed his son.
