- For other uses, see Rubicon.
The Rubicon was a waterway, a river on the planet Earth's European continent.
In 49 BC, Julius Caesar crossed the Rubicon, thus committing himself to a path which would lead to war. Afterwards, the phrase "crossing the Rubicon" arose to mean "passing the point of no return".
Individuals who "crossed the Rubicon" included Elias Vaughn, (TLE novel: Serpents Among the Ruins) Nevin Riordan (ST - Destiny novel: Gods of Night) and James T. Kirk. (TOS novelization: Star Trek)
