A tailor was a profession in which an individual makes and alters clothing.

In 2267, in response to Leonard McCoy's discomfort from wearing his dress uniform, James T. Kirk joked that he would suggest a good tailor, but he thought that McCoy liked to complain. (TOS novel: Crisis of Consciousness)

In 2368, Elim Garak was exiled to Terok Nor, where Gul Dukat thought it would be a humiliating job for Garak if he took over the Bajoran tailor shop. Garak would find that he was an excellent tailor. (DS9 novel: A Stitch in Time, DS9 episodes: "Past Prologue", "Improbable Cause")
