"The Raven" was a famous poem written by American poet Edgar Allan Poe in the mid-19th century.

Upon taking control of the Federation starship USS Enterprise in the year 2266, Charles Evans forced Lieutenant Commander Spock to recite the first two lines of this poem. (TOS episode: "Charlie X")
