"Tis but a scratch."
―The Black Knight to King Arthur[src]
The Black Knight was a minor antagonist in the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and was portrayed by John Cleese and Richard Burton.
History[]
The Black Knight is first seen engaged in battle against the Green Knight. During the fight, which was watched by King Arthur and Patsy, the two knights fought with various weapons and the Black Knight eventually won by throwing his sword through the Green Knight’s visor, killing him. Arthur approached the victorious knight and attempted to persuade him into joining the Knights of the Round Table, to no avail or response. Declaring how the Black Knight made him sad, Arthur tried to cross the bridge, only to be halted by the Black Knight. The two engaged in battle, and King Arthur eventually chopped the knight’s left arm off. The stubborn knight refused to concede and charged at Arthur, who, with one swing, dismembered the other arm. Believing he won, Arthur paused to pray to God, but the Black Knight kicked him in the head and insulted him. Arthur eventually removed both of the knight’s legs. The knight declared the battle a draw, only for Arthur and Patsy to leave across the bridge, with the knight insulting them as they went.
