Applause was founded as the Wallace Berrie Company in 1966. In 1982, the company acquired the Applause division from Knickerbocker, and in 1986, they changed their name to Applause, Inc. In 1995, Applause merged with Dakin.

Applause filed for bankruptcy in 2004, and its name was acquired by the company Russ Berrie.
