Chiana is a young, headstrong, independent-minded Nebari who joins Moya's crew in the Farscape episode "Durka Returns."
She first appears as a prisoner of the Nebari government and set to be mind-cleansed, but she ultimately escapes and joins the Moya crew. Her brother is Nerri, leader of the Nebari resistance movement.
Biography[]
When they were children, Chiana and Nerri, unknowingly infected with a contagion, fled Nebari Prime to get away from the conformist Nebari Establishment. The two spent time at a Budong mining camp. However, believing they would be less conspicuous if they split up, Chiana and Nerri went their separate ways. At some point prior, they implanted in each other a life disc to keep track of one another.
Chiana eventually found herself in custody of Nebari agent Salis and set to be mind cleansed. With some help from the Moya crew, she's freed and joins them on their misadventures. Although she causes almost as much trouble as Rygel, she becomes an integral member of the crew. In "The Hidden Memory," for example, she helps Moya give birth to her son, Talyn.
She grows particularly close to D'Argo, and he even plans on proposing to her. Scared of commitment, however, Chiana cheats on D'Argo with his son Jothee ("Suns and Lovers"). It isn't until the end of the fourth season that the two get back together.
In "Losing Time," Chiana is possessed by a rogue Energy Rider. After this experience, she begins experiencing brief glimpses of the future that leave her temporarily blind. These prescient moments increase in frequency, and so do her periods of blindness. The flashforwards evolve into an ability to see things in slow motion, but this also leaves her blind. Chiana apparently becomes permanently blind after using her power in "Bad Timing." By the time of Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars, a Diagnosan replaced her eyes with those of another species, replacing her slow motion vision with the ability to see energy sources, such as pulse weapons, through walls and shields.
Following D'Argo's death in The Peacekeeper Wars, Chiana copes by having sex with Jothee — 52 times. She later enters a relationship with the bounty hunter Roiin.
Personality[]
Chiana is shamelessly promiscuous, which she often uses to her advantage, flirting with enemies to gain information or get out of trouble. Like Rygel, she is willing to steal, scam, and otherwise deceive others. However, she cares deeply for her crewmates and will risk her life for those she loves.
Stemming from her oppressive upbringing in Nebari culture, Chiana doesn't like feeling trapped and avoids commitment. Likewise, she doesn't respect authority and highly values her freedom.
Unlike other Nebari, Chiana demonstrates impressive acrobatic and agility skills. She is able to jump great distances and even twirl fire ("Scratch 'n Sniff"), a skill she shares with her performer Gigi Edgley.
